Yahoo Messenger - Free chat App Reviews

After the update to the messenger app it has become not user friendly. It no lover shows you whose online and off line, you dont have a contacts list. I also have a problem of someone starting a conversation but it doesnt show up on my messenger. They should have never changed the app.

Horrible all the way around. Useless app.

Cant see the entire friends list, and it doesnt show any of my old messages! If I could give negative stars…I WOULD!!

9/1916 update: Well still no video chat or other major improvements that people want. Yet they keep adding silly improvements like "attaching videos." Obviously no is left at yahoo that can do anything more technical than an attachment. They must have let everyone else go and are certainly not listening to their users anymore. So sad to see a once great app hit rock bottom. I have left it behind. They must think we are all kids who just text and can be pacified with a few gifs. No, we want a full blown chat app like yahoo was before you merged. The management doesnt care about this app or its users. Move on people!!!

The format when messaging is cleaner, easier to read, and overall better than the previous huge, cumbersome, version. Keep going with improvements and revisions and the stars will shine once again on YM.

Yahoo got rid of everything that was good about yahoo messenger. Dont waste your time with this app.

The new sound is horrible. It is the general sound iphones use for everything. So I dont even pay attention to it. Which means have the time I am missing alerts from messages. Other than that I havent noticed any changes from the last version. Please update again with the previous alert sound or give us an option to change it!

YIM is useless to me if I cant tell who is online. Will be using another app instead.

No notifications of messages coming through. Cant see friend list or even screen names anymore. Thats only way I know some friends here. Cant see when people online. Not useful at all.

Terrible app. Cant see who is online. Not sure why yahoo would thinks thats a good thing or a "feature". I repeatedly get notifications for messages that are weeks old. There was nothing wrong with the previous versions. This total overhaul is awful. More evidence of what a lousy job marissa Mayer has done at yahoo. Her focus was supposedly on mobile and this is what we end up with?

I read the reviews and I thought that it couldnt be that bad. Heck, Yahoo does some good work! Well this is that bad. The poor developers are clearly being told to do stupid things by some "management" that cant imagine that their stupid decisions will drive away all their remaining users. (1) Make it awesome and people will flock. (2) Make it lousy and youll quickly go to zero. Yahoo is choosing (2).

If your strategic plan is to eventually retire the service and this is the first phase to get people to abandon Yahoo! chat in favor of something else, youre achieving your goal by leaps and bounds. Holy cow is this thing a piece of garbage.

I just want the old sounds and emojis back. Want to be able to change the color if I feel like it. Want to be able to delete "other contacts" who I dont know at all. Very disappointed.....

This is almost completely useless now. You cant see if your friends are online and they cannot see if your online. I used to spend hours talking to friends now no one uses it at all because its so hard to see and use. And the entire application should go back to the way it was

You cant see who is and isnt online! What a stupid decision by Yahoo. Basic functionality missing so Im guessing theyve decided to kill the service. Only explanation for releasing such a massive downgrade in functionality.

Cant check who is online easy if it wasnt for Asian friends I would never use Facebook messenger way better

Had been using yahoo messenger for years until this recent change. I havent found anything I like about this new version. After giving this a fair try, my friends and I are searching for another messenger that is user friendly and has some of the features of the older version. One star rating is a gift!

Where did everything go? This thing is an empty shell. My friend list is completely gone. 2 stars for the clean design. There is no functionality and no one in my list anymore. If Im missing something here and just ignorant Id be glad to come back and give it 5 stars once someone can explain to me how to get my friend list back and the functionality of the old version.

What is this trash? Yahoo cant even make a proper app without messing it up. Heck, theres not even any video or voice calling in this, how crappy!
